Design Engineer

We are recruiting for an enthusiastic Design Engineer to join our forward thinking fast-paced Design Department.  The position offers a real opportunity to contribute to an established and successful injection moulding business based.

The role encompasses a wide and varied range of tasks with responsibility for multiple product design projects from concept to completion, involving full project management and customer interface.  Managing tooling projects will form a key part of the role and full training for this aspect will be given along with the opportunity for continued development and skill progression.

Our ideal candidate will possess a Product Design or Design for Manufacture background and experience of injection moulding, although  we will consider candidates with a proven tool design background.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design for Manufacture reports on customer supplied CAD models, assessing suitability for Injection Moulding and suggesting changes
  • Design of Products/Components to be Injection Moulded
  • Speaking to customers regarding projects providing advice and support
  • Project Management of new customer projects and tooling orders
  • Customer and Supplier liaison
  • Working internally with the Operations and Quality Assurance teams on improvement projects; including designing jigs and fixtures to support and improve operational activities.
  • Operation of Fortus 380cf, Carbon Fibre 3D Printer

Required Skills:

  • At least 2 years experience working as a Design Engineer or Product Designer
  • Strong knowledge of Injection Moulding
  • Strong user of CAD software, preferably Vero Visi but other software would be considered
  • Good PC skills including Microsoft Office
  • Educated to a minimum of A Level, with GCSE Maths & English grade A–C. With a Level 3 (or above) qualification in Product Design/Engineering
  • Commercially aware and be able to identify product cost saving opportunities
  • A self-motivated, team player, flexible and willing to learn

Desired Skills:

  • At least 3 years experience in a high throughput manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work independently and take the initiative when required.
  • Extensive experience using MRP / ERP systems.
  • Sound knowledge of supply chain processes and procedures including manufacturing planning, demand and replenishment processes.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to reason and influence at all levels.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills, especially MS Office and Google applications.
  • Educated to a minimum of A Level, with GCSE Maths & English grade A–C, possibly with professional qualifications in purchasing. CIPS preferred or studying towards.

Strategic Buyer

We are seeking a full-time Strategic Buyer to start as soon as possible.  This is a superb opportunity for an experienced procurement specialist to join the team at a well established and growing manufacturing business in the East Midlands (Oakham).

Reporting to the Directors, the successful candidate will have a pivotal role in developing Rutland Plastics’ procurement function to meet the future needs of the business. With an ability to learn quickly you will be expected to ‘hit the ground running’ with the transactional requirements of the role, whilst starting to build relationships with suppliers. You will also formulate initiatives to develop this greenfield opportunity, using a strategic approach to supply chain management and delivering value-added initiatives to move the business forward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily order suggestions and raise purchase orders.
  • Maximise stock availability whilst minimising stock levels in line with lean principles.
  • Build and manage supplier relationships, evaluating delivery and contractual supply chain performance.
  • Maintain current and accurate purchase data including price, lead time, minimum stocks, etc.
  • Support Operations OEE targets by ensuring timely deliveries.
  • Manage down slow-moving stock and, in conjunction with the technical team, reduce the number of SKUs.
  • Support multiple departments by obtaining quotes from suppliers, assisting with the ad-hoc procurement process outside of the day to day manufacturing buying.
  • Be proactive in identifying new value-added opportunities across the organisation to help deliver key measures (see below); gain buy-in from stakeholders and deploy across the functions.

Key Measures:

  • Reduce the value of stock as a percentage of turnover.
  • Reduce the number of SKUs.
  • Maximise cash flow/working capital through purchasing timings and alignment with production.
  • Implement stockholding arrangements with suppliers without affecting price.
  • Contribute to OEE through increased on-time deliveries.

Toolmaker/Precision Engineer

As part of our ongoing development, the company is seeking to appoint a Toolmaker/Precision Engineer to its refurbished in-house Engineering department.

Role Requirements

  • Proven engineering background with qualifications.
  • Experienced with programming manual and CNC equipment, milling machines, lathes, spark/wire erosion and surface/cylindrical grinders.
  • A logical approach to problem-solving combined with superb organisational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Strong work ethic, resourceful with bags of initiative and a solid team player.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Highly Desirable

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM packages e.g. Visi Machining/Machining Strategist or equivalent
  • Experience of injection mould tool manufacturing

Our ideal candidate will be a qualified time-served toolmaker or precision machinist who is a driven individual with a desire for personal development and progression.

Salary:

£25,000 –  £30,000 dependant on experience.

All PPE provided. The wider package includes pension, healthcare and life assurance subject to a qualifying period.

Hours:

40 hours per week, Mon-Thurs 8:00 – 17:00, Fri 15.45 (early finish).
