More Training Success
Rutland Plastics is proud to announce that three members of its technical team have recently achieved the standard of City & Guilds in Injection mould tools and condition setting. Neil Smith, Simon Hall and Stuart Spicer undertook assessment through G & A Moulding technology at Peterborough as part of the company’s commitment to training and development of staff.

The test, often described as ‘the driving test’ for tool setting consists of a series of knowledge tests combined with computer simulation and practical assessment. Referred throughout the industry as an ‘end test’, the City & Guilds normally forms the conclusion to formal training in conjunction with an NVQ III.
Neil and Simon are currently working towards NVQ III as apprentice moulding technicians with a view to continuing studies to Foundation degree level. Stuart has made the successful transition from our second operations department across to the mould shop as a tool setter and along with his recent achievement is also proving an asset to the company.
These recent successes are in line with the company’s apprenticeship programme ensuring that any potential skills gaps are covered with ‘home-grown’ technical staff. Attempts in recent years to recruit qualified setter technicians have proved fruitless with an apparently high percentage of trained personnel leaving the industry altogether. The company plans to continue this policy of development from within which has resulted in Rutland Plastics being regarded as ‘world class’ in terms of plastics manufacturing technical expertise.
Rutland Plastics has also just been successful in its ‘Investors in People’ reassessment.
