FURTHER INVESTMENT IN TOOLROOM
Rutland Plastics has just bought a Mazak Nexus 250-II CNC lathe. This latest addition will lead to increased efficiency in the in-house toolroom and maintain our ability to offer competitive mould tool costs for our customers.
One
of the main benefits the new lathe offers over the conventional one it
replaces is much faster programming and set-up times. Due to its unique
“conversational system” a program can be written in less than 1 hour. The
software stores cutting conditions for all materials and has auto fields for
speed of cut, feed and type of cutter. By storing the actual machining
programs as well, if modifications are required it is a relatively simple
task to just amend the relevant part of the program.
The software also includes 3D virtual machining which enables the program to be checked prior to operation so as to avoid collisions or other problems which could cause the machine to stop during operation.
The lathe has a total of 12 different tools which enables it to carry out multiple tasks and speeds up machining times considerably over a conventional lathe. It is capable of handling up to a maximum of 350mm diameter and 500mm long.
Rutland Plastics has made considerable investment in the toolroom in recent years with Machining Strategist software, two Vertical Machining Centres (VMC) and CNC spark and wire eroders.
