RUTLAND PLASTICS TO THE RESCUE!

There have been many stories in the media recently about manufacturing work coming back to the UK from China.  Rutland Plastics has first hand experience of this and a recent example illustrates the point perfectly. (Read More)

A customer approached Rutland Plastics in desperation.  They had customers waiting for product and deliveries were now a month late.  The mould tool was in China, if it was shipped to the UK could Rutland Plastics help out?

The History behind the project was that the company was relatively new to injection moulding and had approached a design house for help.  They in turn placed manufacture in China for what was a relatively low volume, small set of parts; work perfectly suited to sourcing in the UK.

Modifications were required to the mould tool and, after two months, these were still not correct.  In addition there had been problems with parts breaking, possibly due to manufacture in an incorrect material.

Desperate for product to supply his customers, arrangements were made to air freight the mould tool to Rutland Plastics.  The tool arrived on a Tuesday afternoon and was immediately inspected and prepared for sampling and production by Rutland Plastics’ in-house toolroom.  A production slot was made available and the tool sampled Wednesday morning.  The customer approved the pre-production samples Wednesday afternoon at which point the production run was started.  The completed batch of parts was available for the customer Thursday morning, less than 48 hours after the tool arrived at Rutland Plastics’ factory.

A footnote to this story is that Rutland Plastics’ prices were lower than for the Chinese sourced parts and the customer is so happy with the service received that a further 6 mould tools are on their way.  In addition, Rutland Plastics is providing design and prototyping services to the same customer for an exciting new product due to be launched by the end of the year.
