POLYVINYLIDENE FLUORIDE (PVDF)

Description

PVDF is a strong, tough material with excellent chemical and heat resistance.

Properties

PVDF is a good electrical insulator with excellent chemical and heat resistance.  The material has a high impact strength and abrasion resistance is similar to that of Nylons.  Another major advantage of the material is that no heat or UV stabilisers are necessary.

Colouring

The natural colour of the material is translucent milky white.  Care needs to be taken with colouring as some pigments may cause rapid decomposition of PVDF.

Finishing

The material has excellent machinability using the same methods as for Nylon.  Can be welded by hot plate, hot air, ultrasonic and friction methods.

Applications

PVDF is used mainly for valves, pumps, bearings, etc in the chemical process industries.
