Maintenance Engineer

Rutland Plastics is a family firm, with a successful 60-year heritage in plastic injection moulding. We pride ourselves on high employee retention, with some of our staff third generation. Due to ongoing growth and restructuring, we have a need to recruit a Maintenance Engineer to join our team.

Applicants need to be electrically biased and possess a knowledge of PLC’s, hydraulics and pneumatics while the experience of plastic injection moulding machines would be an advantage it is not essential as we favour positive work ethics and shared company values over experience.  

The role involves maintaining the production machinery, carrying out general maintenance and repair throughout the factory and working as part of a flexible, service focused support team to the business.

Working hours: day shifts 6:00am – 2:00pm / 2:00pm – 10:00pm rotating weekly.

Our ideal candidate will have a reliable and ‘can do’ attitude, be able to prioritise work effectively and competently so that repairs are resolved quickly with minimal downtime; note we would consider an applicant part-way through their apprenticeship who can clearly demonstrate these qualities.

The basic salary will be in the range of £28,000 – £32,000 depending on the candidate, with the possibility of overtime. The wider package includes pension, private healthcare, childcare voucher scheme and profit share bonus. On-site parking and work wear provided. Generous 32 days’ holidays to include Christmas shutdown and bank holidays (increasing with years of service).

Mouldshop Shift Setter

Rutland Plastics is a privately owned trade injection moulder situated in Rutland to the east of Leicester. Founded in 1956 the company has grown organically through focusing on technical partnerships with our customers, service and investment into our operation. Due to ongoing growth and restructuring, we are now seeking for Mouldshop Shift Setters who can help us achieve the company’s business goals, exceed our customer’s expectations and move forward our ability to meet technical challenges. Basic salary will be in the range of ​£26,000 – £28,300​ depending on the candidate, with the possibility of overtime. The wider package includes pension, private healthcare, childcare voucher scheme and profit share bonus.

Reporting directly to the Shift Lead Setter the ​key responsibilities​ of this role are:
  • Perform Mould Tool changes effectively and safely on machines ranging from 25T-1700T
  • Set Injection Moulding Machines to produce components, working closely with the Quality department to ensure the quality standard of production is within specification ● Program robots to efficiently de-mould and deposit mouldings, sprues and runners
  • Ensure that production takes place within company set targets, optimising production to be as efficient as possible
  • Take pride in housekeeping to maintain a safe and clean working environment which demonstrates manufacturing excellence
  • Adhere to company Health and Safety procedures and practices at all times
  • Minimise the occurrence of waste within the production environment
  • Interact with production monitoring systems to ensure that the correct information is being recorded at all times
  • Provide suggestions for the updating of production setting documentation to reflect up to date processing information
  • Actively engaging with 5S programs and continuous improvement projects
  • Provide feedback to the Technical team highlighting continuous improvement opportunities
The ​ideal candidate​ will have: 
  • Thorough knowledge of tooling, machines, ancillaries and processing of a wide range of materials
  • A proactive forward-thinking approach to their duties
  • Completed industry recognised training
  • A good understanding of lean manufacturing principles

Experience working with Engel, Krauss Maffei and Wittmann Battenfeld machines and robots is advantageous
