
Rutland Plastics is one of the UK’s leading trade injection moulding companies, based in Oakham, Rutland. Our modern facility includes a fully equipped toolroom, open-plan design office, and 32 injection moulding machines producing components from 1g up to 48kg, across a diverse range of industries, from automotive and medical to industrial and consumer products.
We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a graduate to join our skilled and supportive design engineering team. You’ll gain hands-on experience in injection moulding, design for manufacture (DFM), tooling, and additive manufacturing, while also developing key CAD and project management skills. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with three experienced Design Engineers in a fast-paced environment.
- Liaise directly with customers regarding their projects & enquiries, providing technical input and design support to them.
- Assist with quoting for new tooling and prototype projects by consolidating customer information & reviewing design data.
- Operation & maintenance of our in-house 3D printer.
- Contribute to the development of injection moulded products and injection mould tool design.
- Analyse product designs considering DFM to highlight opportunities for design optimisation. Prepare and deliver DFM presentations to demonstrate these opportunities to customers.
- Support new and existing customers with product design refinement.
- Manage tooling and design projects from concept through to completion.
- Design jigs, fixtures, and robotic end-of-arm tooling to support production and automation.
- Create detailed CAD models using Vero VISI and produce high-quality renders using KeyShot.
- Use Moldex3D simulation software to analyse plastic flow and validate tool designs.
- Capture high-quality product and marketing images using a DSLR camera.
- Use Adobe Creative Suite to prepare technical documentation and visual content for our website and social media platforms.
What We’re Looking For
Applicants should hold a design or engineering degree in a relevant discipline.
Essential Skills & Attributes:
- Solid understanding of engineering principles
- Awareness of injection moulding processes and DFM principles
- 3D CAD modelling experience
- Understanding of plastic mouldflow simulation would be desirable
- Strong time management and organisational abilities
- A logical, structured approach to problem-solving
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines
- High attention to detail and quality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A collaborative mindset and strong team ethic
