The best way to understand the uses of plastic injection moulding is to read polymer applications stories. Here are a selection of projects where Rutland Plastics has worked closely in partnership with our customers in developing successful plastic moulded products. Also included is a series of general application features.

Flymount S1 iPhone Case

With an increasing trend for people to use helmet mounted cameras to record themselves when cycling, skiing, skateboarding or during some other sporting activity, why not use smartphones instead? Joe Knapton of Flymount had an idea for a helmet mounted iPhone case.

Schelle Electric Toothbrush Traveller

Do you have an electric toothbrush? Do you take it away with you? If the answer to both questions is ‘Yes’ then you will probably be familiar with the problems of transporting it, from how to pack it to it switching itself on.

Third Rail Insulator

Using plastics as a replacement for metal is now quite commonplace. One such application is the insulator that supports the third rail supplying power to electric trains.

Gas Bottle Handle

Rutland Plastics was approached by Continental Product Engineering Ltd to design and manufacture a handle for a small propane gas bottle. The handles are traditionally manufactured in metal.

Loftzone StoreFloor

The Government recommends that everyone insulates their lofts to a depth of 270mm if they use rolls of mineral wool insulation. But homeowners also want to use the loft for storage, and so how to achieve both objectives? Loftzone StoreFloor offers a solution.

Heat from the Ground

A geothermal heat pump is a means of transferring heat from a higher temperature location to a lower temperature location or vice versa. In this case the source of heat is the warmth of the earth.

MindDice Rolling Back Memories

MindDice® is a product to help people with dementia communicate with their carers. MindDice® has been designed and produced by John Sprange through his direct experience of caring for his father who had Alzheimer’s.

Breaking New Ground in Water Metering

The Groundbreaker system is a new method for installing water supply to buildings. The Groundbreaker™ and INSUduct™ products are designed to make life easier for anyone installing a new or replacement water system.

Quick Release Dispenser

The traditional container for disinfectant wipes is a bucket and lid with a closure in the top. Sizes vary but the problems remain the same. The solution is a permanently sealed bag with a means to access the wipes should the end become detached.

Connection Pin

Phi Group is the most experienced retaining solution specialist in the UK in both the design and installation of modular block wall systems. These act as retaining walls by linking the block to soil reinforcement and become substantial structures capable of resisting high loads to almost any height.

Look Behind You!

Reversing a bus or coach can be a tricky and potentially dangerous operation. Some years ago, Rutland Plastics was heavily involved in the development of the Rearscope Lens. This device is essentially a prismatic lens fixed to the rear window of the bus or coach that enables the driver to see any persons or objects immediately behind the vehicle.

Metal Replacement

There are a number of reasons to consider plastics in place of metal. : weight saving, cost saving and plastics do not corrode.

Medical Plastics

When choosing an appropriate material for medical applications, there are a number of factors to consider in addition to the material’s properties.

Medical Sterilisation Techniques

There are a variety of sterilisation methods that may be used and it is important to ensure that the chosen polymer is suited to the selected process.

Thermoplastic materials are used in a wide variety of lighting and other electrical applications.

Demands for cost saving have led to engineering polymers replacing metals in many demanding applications, one of these is the manufacture of gears.

Focus – Agriculture

Plastics have been widely used in agriculture for many years. Some of the applications are obvious but others less so.

Focus – Automotive

The automotive industry is at the forefront of polymer development. Firstly because there is a need to reduce vehicle weight to improve fuel consumption and reduce emissions. Secondly, because of its highly competitive nature requiring constant efforts to reduce costs and introduce innovative design.

Focus – Utilities

Plastics are increasingly used in utilities applications – gas, water, telecommunications, etc.

Plastics Plating

Metal plating of plastics can be carried out on virtually all types of resin.

We can provide advice and quotes on anything from a simple sketch to a 3D computer model. Most drawing formats can be handled although we find STEP, Parasolid and DXF translate most successfully.
